Venegas Duo

Luis Francisco Venegas began pursuing his formal musical studies in the year 2004, successfully graduating with honors from both his undergraduate and masters degrees, both with emphasis in guitar performance, at Oklahoma City University (OCU). As a teacher, Francisco has lead a very effective private studio for over a decade, starting in his homeland Colombia, and continuing after moving to Oklahoma City where he currently resides. Francisco also serves as the current guitar instructor at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO), and as lead teacher of music composition at El Sistema Oklahoma. Informally, Francisco serves as a volunteer for the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) guitar convention and competition. His experience working with guitar ensembles is broad, and has been awarded first and second prize as part of the OCU Guitar ensemble and OCU Guitar trio, respectively, at the National Guitar Ensemble Competition at Brownsville, TX – (2014). As a performer he and his wife – Elizabeth Venegas – currently collaborate as a violin and guitar duet, performing in various venues, with an eclectic repertoire primarily based on their own arrangements. With an extensive history of master classes and workshops with several major guitarists throughout his career, his teaching has evolved in both experience and content, thus gaining in diversity of methods and teaching techniques.

A native Oklahoman, Elizabeth Venegas has performed throughout the state and beyond as an orchestral musician, duet partner, soloist, recording artist, and as an integral part to many ensembles. Currently she performs with the Oklahoma Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra (and is General Manager), Venegas Duo, OKC Improv Theater “BitSing”, Mozart Orchestra of New York, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Fort Smith Symphony, Tulsa Symphony, to name a few. She is a lover of the arts, sharing that passion through chamber music, and her studies have produced a unique and specialized instrumentalist who enjoys performing in a multitude of genres. Elizabeth is passionate about music, pushing the boundaries of both performance and education. Occasionally you may even catch her in a pub with Lady & The Rovers, fiddling Irish tunes…
